Attorney During my four years at Clark, Hunt & Embry, I initially managed approximately forty subrogation claims and lawsuits as lead attorney from initial demand through settlement or trial. During this time I arbitrated a number of cases, mediated a few cases, and acted as lead trial attorney in a property damage action that went to jury verdict. In 2005 I transitioned from prosecuting subrogation claims to insurance defense work. At that time and through 2007, I managed a few insurance defense tort claims from initial demand though trial or settlement. I also assisted the partners in a number of several complex civil litigation, business litigation and toxic tort cases. I drafted pleadings, discovery, motions to dismiss, motions to compel, and motions for summary judgment.

I attended state and federal court on a regular basis to represent clients at case management conferences, scheduling conferences, and the argue their positions in both discovery and dispositive motions. In doing so, I wrote and argued several successful motions for summary judgment, motions to dismiss, and motions to compel. When my clients were successful in the lower court, if the opposing party appealed the ruling, I wrote the appellate brief.

In addition to attending court for case management and motion hearings, I second chaired a multi-day medical mal-practice trial.

I also managed on a day-to-day basis the defense of a large number of personal injury cases, filed after the defendant incurred media scrutiny, based upon novel theories of law. In the cases filed as putative class actions in Massachusetts, the defense defeated class certification. In the actions in which summary judgment was filed, I succeeded on winning summary judgment for my clients. Those cases successfully won on summary judgment are now on appeal.

During my time at Clark, Hunt & Embry, I also took and defended more than one hundred depositions, examined expert witnesses, and participated in all stages of discovery and motion practice.

Immigration Law Intern I drafted an appellate brief which was filed with the Board of Immigration Appeals. I represented non-citizens in their proceedings with the Immigration Court, including filing the necessary paperwork to renew work authorizations and petitions for permanent residency status. I conducted information gathering interviews with non-citizens, and I researched both factual and legal issues relating to the representation of non-citizens in asylum and other claims.
2001-2003 McLaughlin & McCaffrey, LLP Cleveland, OH
Law Clerk I drafted various pleadings, including complaints, motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, and appellate briefs. I drafted discovery papers, including interrogatories, document production requests and admission requests. I also researched Federal and State law on various subjects and drafted the accompanying memoranda.
